17 R3, maximum RAM frequency allowed

How much RAM frequency can Alienware 17 R3 handle? I found out the original ones in mine is 2X 8GB 2133MHz. One of the slots got busted, I plan to install single 16GB ram. Will HyperX 16GB 2660MHz work on the system? It is hard to find 2133MHz Ram this days.

This page from the Crucial web site should help. The maximum you can have is 32 GB of RAM so 1 16 GB RAM module will work. If you use 2666 or 2400 RAM it will run at 2133 and the Crucial RAM shown indicates that. As for HyperX, Dell, including Alienware, systems are rather picky about RAM compatibility and Crucial has been shown to be the most compatible.
