m15 R6, fan start threshold

Hi, I've recently purchased an Alienware m15 R6. I found problems with the Power button, the laptop wasn't turning on unless it was plugged. Report the problem to support and the first move from the Dell's tech was to upgrade my BIOS firmware, that solved the problems but now the fans are set at 40% when components reach 50°C degrees (122°F), and I found very annoying because those are the temps of almost any electronic device at idle in my environment. The fans continually get to 60% when 55°C, and max above 65°. The old firmware (and my old alienware m15 R4) barely STARTS to spin the fans at 60° (140°F) and I could say it was a nice spot. There's a way to custom the threshold of fan speed steps? By the way, there's a way to send suggestions? I know it might not be very helpful, but a support request maybe means some overkill solution like change the mobo(and new probably has the new BIOS too) or send it back and claim a refund.

Hi @RevSym for Alienware m15 R6 the Alienware Command Center (AWCC) version 5.0 and higher, you will find the thermal controls within the Fusion tab. The Processors supported by your Alienware m15 R6 are intentionally designed for performance and can reach temperatures of up to 100°C. Check to see which thermal controls have your option to keep your system at lower temperatures with reduced performance.

    Hi @RevSym !

    Here is what to do:

    1. Check what version your BIOS is on. Alienware m15 R6 System BIOS | Driver Details | Dell UK

    2. Check what version AW Command center is on and if its old then update it with a newer version. <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>

3.This should be the real fix as it directly controls thermals and fans. Intel Dynamic Tuning Driver | Driver Details | Dell UK

Hope I could help and let me know if any issues occur after setting the fan profile to quiet in AW command center.

Quick Tip: If your laptop has voltage / charging issues, try shutting it down, unplugging power from laptop, hold power button down for 30 seconds to do a full reset!
