m15 R6, keeps turning itself on and doesn't turn on properly initially
I have recently bought (October 10, 2021) a brand new Alienware 15" laptop. Initially I noticed the lid seemed a bit flimsy and could be pushed in. I'd decided I could live with that but I thought I'd mention it here in case it was common and it would make me feel better after parting with so much money on something that seemed flimsy.
The issue relating to the title of this post, though, has me more concerned. For example, yesterday I wanted to clear some dust from the laptop so I blew over it and it switched on. If I were to push the lid without opening it, it will turn on. And when I do want to turn it on, usually it switches off at least once so I have to do it again.
I have updated the BIOS as another post suggested but I'm not sure what to do now.
The BIOS- Power menu has a section titled "Lid Switch". So what you are describing concerning opening the lid is normal.
But the other issue is in question.
* The external 240W ac power adapter is connected to the m15 R6 * The m15 R6 is powered on, the lid is fully open, you are on the Windows desktop * Click the left bottom Windows icon (Start) * Click Power * Click Shut down * The m15 R6 now turns off * Close the lid fully
Now, you are saying that if you simply press the middle of the fully closed lid, the m15 R6 turns on?
Thank you for your response. Since I have discovered that it turns itself on, it may explain a lot of things I thought were happening. Like switching on when I blew dust on it, or switching on when I pressed on the lid. It may be that I'd had it switched off, lifted the lid, changed my mind and closed the lid, pressed down on the lid and thought that that was what had caused it to fire up rather than the initial opening.
It isn't doing it now, but the fact that it switches itself on has opened doors and changed how I think about how it should be behaving. I am really hoping I don't have any more issues that I think are issues but are actually just part of that switching itself on behaviour I was oblivious to.
I have attempted to switch the machine on just by pressing the lid and it didn't come on, the above is just a guess. I've known it to feel inconsistent, but that may have been because I didn't know about the auto switching on.
I hope this is making sense. Potentially this is resolved and it was just my ignorance at play. But I will keep an eye on it.
Thank you! I will keep you updated if it does anything peculiar, but knowing it's supposed to come on has really changed how I'm expecting it to behave and will really help.
