m15, recently updated, now Thunderbolt port not working

I purchased a m15 at the end of February and have successfully been using both the HDMI and Thunderbolt (via USB-C to HDMI adapter) ports for a dual monitor setup. Both monitors are basic AOC 27" 60hz monitors.

Last week I got the notification that there were system updates and ran the Alienware Update program. Everything seemed to update correctly, no errors or warnings. However now my Thunderbolt port is not working. When I try to use it for a monitor the system doesn't recognize that there's a monitor attached.

I verified that the monitor and HDMI cable were working and also bought another USB-C to HDMI adapter. Still no luck. Used the diagnostic test via Dell's support site and nothing came back wrong. I also uninstalled and reinstalled the Thunderbolt driver.

When I hook up my phone to the Thunderbolt port, it does show that the phone is charging.

Kinda at a loss here and was hoping someone might know more troubleshooting I can do or might have some insight...

    Hi,

Thank you for the info. Please check the Device Manager window to confirm if you show any errors with the USB devices. Also, make sure your system is running the latest Bios version from the Dell support site.

Ah, that was indeed it. I didn't get any notifications about a new BIOS update, saw there was one. Updated and confirmed that the Thunderbolt port is active again.

    Thanks!

I have a similar situation. Just updated the bios to latest versions today ran all the updates needed with a rep, signed off and rebooted my pc. The original issue I was having was fixed but now, my thunderbolt c is not reading my monitor as well. Bios is up to date, I just did it with a rep, took about an hour+ on the phone.

Any Ideas as to whats happening?

me too, having the very same issue. Thunderbolt recognizes devices other than monitors. Seems like the hdmi signal is not being transmitted? Help is appreciated...

I am in the same boat too. My m15 R4 used to connect to 2 u242ie monitors just fine: one via thunderbolt dock and usb-c, and one via hdmi. Now I can tell it at least detects the dock to the extent where I can use the mouse/keyboard combo plugged into it, but it refuses to acknowledge either display is hooked up. I’ve updated the bios, reinstalled the dock driver, and tried to install the monitor display drivers manually as well!
