GSAN failed to start

Dear All,

Base on "CLEANING CUSTOMER DATA FROM EVALUATION AVAMAR SERVERS' doc, I try to clean the backup data.

And then I cannot start the gsan.

dpnctl: INFO: Checking that gsan was shut down cleanly...

dpnctl: ERROR: 1 error seen in output of "export SYSPROBEUSER=admin && /usr/local/avamar/bin/mapall --noerror '/bin/cat /tmp/dpnctl-gsan-isclean-output-23250 /tmp/dpnctl-gsan-isclean-status-23250' 2>&1"

dpnctl: ERROR: rollback and restart failed: no checkpoint found to which to roll back

dpnctl: ERROR: gsan is not up, so not restarting MCS

please input for any idea.

Thank you, Dennis

The document which you are using is not an officially released one.  Any procedure of this nature is intended for internal EMC use only (for test or demo systems).  We wouldn't recommend using it as it is not supported for use by partners or customers.

The logging above is telling us that the GSAN was shut down uncleanly and that there are no available checkpoints on the system to facilitate a rollback.

If the 'cleaning' procedure was carried out unsuccessfully then even if we managed to restart and then create and validate a new checkpoint there could still be other, unknown, gremlins lurking.

The system should be re-installed from scratch using the latest software release.

    Hi Nicholas,

Is there any way to uninstall Avamar software 6.0?

I will try to reinstall it. I cannot find the avqinstall command to use.

    Thank you for help.

    Hi Dennis

The recommended way to remove the software would be to re-kickstart the node using the "

AVAMAR DATA STORE REKICKSTART INSTRUCTIONS" which are available to EMC partners.  At that stage you can re-install the software, if required, without worrying about any left over data.
