Modifying the Avamar Client UI Menu

My customer would like to be able to minimise or grey-out some of the options presented to the end-user when he right clicks on the Avamar Client desktop Icon. He says - "One of the issues though is that the menu presented to the users has more options.  I can't allow users to use it unless we can simple give them the Back Up Now and Restore options.  The rest need to be greyed out or not shown to make it simple for an end user."

Can anyone suggest the best way to do this - his users are all Windows DT/LT clients.

thanks

As far as I know it's not possible to disable menu items. I would recommend working with your local EMC team to submit a request for enhancement.

The best alternative I can think of in the meantime is a custom application with a Backup Now button that calls C:\Program Files\avs\bin\avscc --command=backupnow and a Restore button that launches the DTLT web interface. You would have to disable start up of the built-in Avamar client UI.

We hide notifications from the Avamar client icon in the toolbar via GPO, which effectively hides it from the end user. We provided users a desktop shortcut to the Avamar DTLT web interface, simply labeled "Backup and Restore", but with the Avamar client icon.  That seems to work fairly well, as users seem to look at the desktop for their needs - maybe it could work in your environment?

Let us know if that helps!
