Hi Adam,
Sorry for the typo, when trying to run storage vMotion on a VMware VM, it failed, and error message displayed "the method is disabled by EMC Avamar VM backup proxy", there shouldn't be any locks to the VM since the backup completed successful.
What can be done in order to make storage vMotion works? is this a software bug?

As per the thread here storage vmotion failed - the method is disabled by EMC Avamar VM backup proxy it looks like you may be using EBR / Image level backups with NetWorker, in that case the hot fix mentioned in NetWorker EBR: Hotfix Release 192493 is likely more relevant.
You may want to open up a support request to get further clarification.

Just looked into this a little further and this is also discussed here: Cannot migrate a vm in vcenter error says migration prevented by EMC Avamar VM Backup Proxy.
If the proxy version is 7.0.101-61 (7.0 SP1) there is a known issue where the proxy does not always clear the stale migration reservation on the VM after a backup. There is a hotfix available for this so if you are using 7.0.101-61 proxies I would recommend you install the hotfix:
- ftp://avamar_ftp:anonymous@ftp.avamar.com/software/hotfixes/60499/README.htm
- ftp://ftp.avamar.com/software/hotfixes/60499/AvamarVMwareCombined-linux-sles11sp3-x86_64-7.0.101-62.rpm
