Host connected to CX700 can't format partitions
Just connected one of my hosts into my CX700 and can see all LUN's. But using disk mgmt on the windows server, it won¿t let me format 2 out of my 5 LUN's.
I have a red mark as unknown and unreadable. i tried to refresh and rescan for disks but nothing. when trying to format the partition (LUN), the "new partition creation¿ option is disable - any idea why i have this problem with only 2 of LUN's and the other 3?
Also logged in into my storage to see if any properties differences between LUN¿s and all the same as I created on the storage.

thanks just downloaded it and asking for license. i under i need license for CX Family unless it is AX Family?!- If you have 2 paths to the array (one to each SP), then you can use PowerPath for basic failover with no license (should have come on a CD when the array was purchased). Any more paths and you need to purchase a license (allows for load balancing among other things).
Most likely the problem you are running into is that Windows sees multiple devices (one for each path to the lun on the array) and does not know what to do with them. PowerPath will clear the confusion and present one device to the host (even with the 2 or more paths).

you mean if i rebooted the saerver or the storage?
also my san is FC direct connection to the front end and no fabric topology/and failover. do i still need powerpath?Bomb_29390e

i am not using any multipathing in my environment. as i said the initators are connected directly into the targets with out any fabric switch. so... why or maybe how i set a failover mode if there is no hardware or software to support it (no switch and no softweare) - i guess i am missing here something - tx

Without PowerPath and the failover mode set to 1 (which is the default) all paths to a LUN will be displayed on the host.
To get PowerPath from PowerLink, you will need to have a License for PowerPath.
