Between 2 buildings 5KM apart, we have 2 ISLs. We need to replace them as we have new network equipment.
The older ISLs are multimode, 8gb, ports 48 and 52. The new are single mode, 16gb, ports 49 and 53.
licenseshow says second ports on demand license and full ports on demand license.
Here are the settings using the portcfgshow command for both ports on the same switch:
portcfgshow 48 Area Number: 48 Octet Speed Combo: 1(16G|8G|4G|2G) FC Speed Level: SOFT AL_PA Offset 13: OFF Trunk Port ON Long Distance OFF VC Link Init OFF Locked L_Port OFF Locked G_Port ON Disabled E_Port OFF Locked E_Port OFF ISL R_RDY Mode OFF RSCN Suppressed OFF Persistent Disable OFF LOS TOV mode 0(OFF) NPIV capability ON QOS Port AE Port Auto Disable: OFF Rate Limit OFF EX Port OFF Mirror Port OFF SIM Port OFF Credit Recovery ON F_Port Buffers OFF E_Port Credits 40 Fault Delay: 0(R_A_TOV) NPIV PP Limit: 126 NPIV FLOGI Logout: OFF CSCTL mode: OFF TDZ mode: OFF D-Port mode: OFF D-Port over DWDM: OFF Compression: OFF Encryption: OFF 10G/16G FEC: ON 16G FEC via TTS: OFF 8G Non-DFE: OFF(Auto)
portcfgshow 49 Area Number: 49 Octet Speed Combo: 1(16G|8G|4G|2G) FC Speed Level: 8G AL_PA Offset 13: OFF Trunk Port ON Long Distance LE VC Link Init OFF Locked L_Port OFF Locked G_Port OFF Disabled E_Port OFF Locked E_Port ON ISL R_RDY Mode OFF RSCN Suppressed OFF Persistent Disable OFF LOS TOV mode 0(OFF) NPIV capability ON QOS Port OFF Port Auto Disable: OFF Rate Limit OFF EX Port OFF Mirror Port OFF SIM Port OFF Credit Recovery ON F_Port Buffers OFF E_Port Credits OFF Fault Delay: 0(R_A_TOV) NPIV PP Limit: 126 NPIV FLOGI Logout: OFF CSCTL mode: OFF TDZ mode: OFF D-Port mode: OFF D-Port over DWDM: OFF Compression: OFF Encryption: OFF 10G/16G FEC: ON 16G FEC via TTS: OFF 8G Non-DFE: OFF(Auto)
I see some discrepancies, especially with enabling QOS (although I do not know if the ports would not come up without it), however when I try to enable QOS, I get the following error: "Error when performing specified action for port 49 - Port 49 can not be configured as QOS link. ISL R_RDY mode and QOS mode are mutually exclusive."
Also, according to the datacenter team, all the connections to the new hardware have been tested.
So the old ports show long distance off and isl r_rdy off, new ones have long distance LE and isl r_rdy off. Try setting the port to not long distance and see if you can enable QoS.
The ports are almost the same now with a couple exceptions:
Port 48 Port 49 FC Speed Level: SOFT FC Speed Level: 8G Trunk Port ON Trunk Port OFF E_Port Credits 40 E_Port Credits OFF
The speed is set to 8G because I saw somewhere that all ISLs must match speed. I can manually change the E_Port Credits to 40, however, I do not believe that they matter when bringing up the ISL, only the performance.
I do not know how to check for trunk port licenses.
licenseshow X----------------------------------: Second Ports on Demand license - additional 24 port upgrade license Y----------------------------------: Full Ports on Demand license - additional 48 port upgrade license
Here are the port configs (matched on all 4 ports -- 2 local, 2 remote)
Port 48 is old Port 49 is new
portcfgshow 48 Area Number: 48 Octet Speed Combo: 1(16G|8G|4G|2G) FC Speed Level: SOFT AL_PA Offset 13: OFF Trunk Port ON Long Distance OFF VC Link Init OFF Locked L_Port OFF Locked G_Port OFF Disabled E_Port OFF Locked E_Port ON ISL R_RDY Mode OFF RSCN Suppressed OFF Persistent Disable OFF LOS TOV mode 0(OFF) NPIV capability ON QOS Port AE Port Auto Disable: OFF Rate Limit OFF EX Port OFF Mirror Port OFF SIM Port OFF Credit Recovery ON F_Port Buffers OFF E_Port Credits 40 Fault Delay: 0(R_A_TOV) NPIV PP Limit: 126 NPIV FLOGI Logout: OFF CSCTL mode: OFF TDZ mode: OFF D-Port mode: OFF D-Port over DWDM: OFF Compression: OFF Encryption: OFF 10G/16G FEC: ON 16G FEC via TTS: OFF 8G Non-DFE: OFF(Auto)

Hi svillardi2,
