Checked the Centera statistics and it was retrieving files -- I know that because we have no other traffic at the moment.

BackupExec is not supposed to retrieve the files (http://support.veritas.com/docs/251162).

Any idea how to keep it from retrieving the files?

Perhaps a hint; what is your setting for the 3rd party backup mode for managed files option on the Options tab of the Extended Drive Properties dialog box?

You may have to setup a Special Application Filter using the DX admin program.
From the admin guide:

"You can configure File System Manager to force a type of data access for purged files
when those files are called by specific software applications. For example, you might
not want virus scanning software to recall purged file data from media during a virus
scan, or you might want a program to read files directly from the media."

Hmmm... apparently DX for NAS does not have that option Frank. I have searched the admin manual and don't see it.

The only option I can find is a check box for Remote Files. We don't have that checked which should cause it not to get retrieved. But they are definitely being retrieved.

Sorry about that. I missed the bit about NAS earlier.
I don't know alot about DX for NAS. My understanding is that a DiskXtender for Windows box kinda sits in between DX for NAS (Celera, right?) and the Centera.
If that is the case you should be able to gather some stats using the DiskXtender Administrator tool. Hope this helps.

No -- DX for NAS runs on a box, just like DX for Windows. The difference is there is no media store piece and the DX for NAS can use the Centera as secondary storage.

So it DX for NAS takes it from the Celera and writes it to the Centera. I have the Windows version of DX for NAS -- to it is running on a Windows server.

I guess I will open a case with support and see what they think about this. Thanks for trying to help me out. I appreciate it.
