1. You'll want to plan your system for growth. There may be 200GB of files now, but where will the system be in 1 year? 3 years? 5 years? How much data do you want to keep local on the drive? These are the types of things you need to consider when planning the size of your Extended Drive. Once you have an answer to those, you'll have a pretty good idea of how large your Extended Drive should be.

2. You should make sure you install a Supported version of Dx. Dx 5.5 and higher are currently supported. Anything older than Dx 5.5 is not supported. I'd recommend Dx 5.6 SR1 or higher for new installs. If you are running Windows 2003 SP1, you'll need to install Dx 5.6 SR1, as this is the first version that Supports Windows 2003 SP1.

3. You will only need to install DiskXtender to archive your data if you are using TSM, NAS or Centera as your Media Service. If you plan on using a Tape, DVD or Optical Library, you'll need to install MediaStor in addition to DiskXtender. If you install MediaStor, you'll need to make sure DiskXtender and MediaStor are running the same version, and have the latest patches applied.
