I was thrilled with how easy it is to extract the MSI file from the OMCI 8 installation executable, but I am recieving an error when I attempt to deploy the MSI using Group Policy. Previous versions allowed this, and it was a really effective method of managing dell computers on a domain when coupled with WMI targeting. Has anyone managed to get the OMCI 8 MSI to work with a GPO deployment, and are there any plans to produce a working MSI file?
Have you been able to manually install the MSI directly? If so, it should be deployable with a GPO. If not, then you may need some additional parameters for the MSI to install correctly.
I was able to install manually, but the assignment to the Group Policy was failing with an error about not being able to extract deployment information from the package. I was able to find and fix the problem just this morning using Orca, One of the custom actions (caOMILAdvCheck) set in the MSI file was preventing assignment. I removed the action and was able to successfully deploy.
I have the same issue. I validated the msi with InstallShield 2010 Full MSI Validation Suite. The validation gives me 4 errors and 9 warnings. Unfortunately, I can't post the log here because of a 2000 characters limit. Looks like there are more issues with this msi.
Did you get an answer on this - having the same issue with any version of 8.x OMCI MSI - the package installs fine manually but windows errors when trying to assign via Group Policy on Server 2008 R2.
"Add operation failed, Unable to extract Deployment information from package. Run validation on the package to ensure it is correct"
Has there been any resolution on this. I'm having the same issue. I need to install Dell OMCI 8 to about 400 PCs. Installing through a GPO worked well with the older versions. Is there some at Dell that can be contacted to resolve the issue with the .msi?
I understand this is an old thread, but I am still having this issue.
I am trying to deploy OMCI 8.1 via Group Policy on a Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 64bit network.
I've gone through the instructions to extract the MSI and it's required files, but Group Policy Management won't even let me add the package. It would seem silly to install it via a startup script, as it would run the installer on every boot.
The internet seems to all say the same thing, so I'll just ask: Is there a definitive way to install OMCI via Group Policy?
