Dell Compellent SC8000 Controllers connectivity

While connecting two SC8000 with a single cable through a single port on each controller (Eth 0, 10G) do refer to a single point of failure

In case of any breakage of cable or any fault in port may result in the loss of communication between the controllers

Thanks

The direct SC8000 to SC8000 cable is just one of many hearbeat connection points between the two controllers. It is used for the initial joining of the two controllers but is not one of the high priority methods of communication between the controllers. You still have FC (if used) and also the SAS backend as other options for IPC communications between the two controllers. If the heartbeat cable is lost it will not cause a complete isolation of the two controllers from one another.

Thanks a lot for the response, but what could be the advantage of having this heartbeat connection and disadvantage for not having this connection

    Kind Regards
