RAID 5 issue with MD1000
I have a MD1000 with 15 500GB drives and I’m trying to get RAID to work. Configuring everything on my Dell PowerEdge 2950 via the Dell OpenMange Server GUI. Okay, under the PERC5/E Adaptor (PCI slot 1) selected virtual disks and used the advance wizard. Next I selected all the drives under connector 0 and 1 which totaled 13027.00GB using RAID 5. Finished up configuration and went to Disk management where Disk 1 had a total 13027.00GB. Everything so far was okay. I then right clicked on the Disk 1 volume and initialized disk 1 and it split into 2 sections 2048.00GB and 10978.99GB of unallocated space. Now, this wouldn’t be a problem but when I right clicked on the 10978.99GB volume it was grayed out and doesn’t allow me to create new partitions on it. I am however, allowed to create partitions on the 2048.00GB volume. Does anyone have any ideas to why I can partition one block but not the other? I'm new so if anything sounds funny I apologize

The reason the disk split the way they did was it formatted the drive as a MBR disk...which can only utilize 2tb of disk space. Anything beyond that will be unusable. If your intentions are to keep the large raid 5 set, I would delete the partition on the 2tb block and once they are both unallocated right click on the disk and convert to GPT. This will allow you to utilize the entire disk and then you can split it however you want.
