PROCESSOR UPGRADE

I have an Inspiron 3650 and would like to upgrade the processor so I can run Windows 11.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to which processor to buy that will work with my Desktop?

Where would I find the instructions for the CPU check bypass method?

none of the cpu c/w 3650 are on the official Windows 11 eligible cpu list.  The cpu c/w 3650 are Intel 6th gen.  Windows 11 needs at least Intel 8th gen.

The chipset of 3650 is 100 series (H110). Windows 11 needs at least 300 series intel chipset.

but you can still install 11 in 3650 using some cpu check bypass method.https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-Inspiron-3650-1-TB-DVD-RW-Windows-11-Mini-Desktop-Excellent-Works-Great/275061214147?

    go to bottom:
Microsoft has provided a registry hack. Using this hack, you can install on a system that has at least TPM 1.2 and has an unsupported CPU. That said, we recommend the scripts above because they don't require you to have TPM of any kind.

    1. Open Regedit.

    2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\MoSetup

    3. Create a DWORD (32-bit) Value called AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPU if it doesn't already exist.

    4. Set AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPU to 1.

I tried this over the weekend, and it still didn't work.  I'm going to try again this weekend and see what happens.

I used this one to create a Win11.iso that bypasses cpu check etc. I burned a dvd using the iso.  https://github.com/AveYo/MediaCreationTool.bat

There is no need to use bypass method.  If you want to use Windows 11, just download Win 11 creation tool to make an installation USB (at least 8gb), and perform a clean install straight away.  It will work on machines with enabled features:  UEFI, Secure Boot, and TPM.

Of course, no harm to use bypass for your preferences.

I downloaded the file to a USB Drive.  I'm assuming all I have to do is hit the setup.exe file and it will take over from there.  Is this correct?

No, you download creation tool file to a working computer (can be your current one), then double click to run, it will walk you through a process of creating a USB, then you use the USB to plug in to a computer that you want to install Win 11.

Remember to keep the USB plug in during running the creation tool, all data on USB will be destroy, so make sure to use a blank one.

Still did not work.  Still gave me the same error that the processor was incorrect.  Downloaded to the computer, ran it from the computer to make the USB, ran startup.exe from the USB.

It will work with a clean install without any mod.  For clean install you plug USB to the computer while the PC is off.  After pushing power button, you will keep tapping F12 until you get a one time boot, do not hold F12 down, just keep tapping on it.  Once the boot menu comes up, you must select the USB option under UEFI and hit enter, the Windows set up will start.  Installed several machines with Skylake processors without any problems.
