inspiron 1318 won't auto play discs

We just got an Inspiron 1318 from Wal*Mart a couple days ago.  A wonderful computer and it's very fast despite the Intel Media Accelerator graphics and it has a glossy screen the problem I'm having is that when I insert a CD or DVD into the slot load drive is that it won't autoplay/start the media.  I've installed a few programs that my fiance needs etc and the drive takes the disc in and I hear the drive spin up and read it but then nothing happens.  If I click on computer it shows the DVD drive with the volume of the disc in it and if I double click it then it will start so it's not the drive.  I now how to turn auto play on/off on a Win9X setup but am not sure if Vista is any different. Help is appreciated.
