Reinstalling Windows 1903 after a Rollback
I updated to 1903 but had a glitch and had to roll it back. Now I want to go back up to 1903. I found
this page with the download links for 1903 on the Microsoft site:
I'm wondering now if it makes any difference which of these options one uses to download and install 1903. I'd like to try using the media creation tool this time, but since I used windows update the first time is it better to stick with that method? Does it matter?
I've never used the media creation tool before and was also wondering if using it will wipe out my apps and settings. I want to upgrade but keep all data, settings, and apps in place.

Thank you, Clintlgm. I appreciate that information, especially the tip about the Dell drivers. When you say to have them handy, does that mean I should download some of them ahead of time? Or just that I'll need to go to the Dell website to get them after doing the re-installation. Which drivers in particular might we be talking about?Thanks again.I would get them in advance and have them ready to go on a USB Device.
You Might consider Dell Command Update 3.0, it has a feature to download all drivers needed for a clean install, so they will all download in one download much less hassle than getting them one at time.
Dell Command Update 3.0 is a manual version of dell update Assistant, It allows you to manually control what driver get installed and when. https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=y2kwd
Using the Media Creation tool works fine, just like the upgrade directly from Microsoft. You just have to start the upgrade from within Windows.
Be aware, 1903 had some problems when using a USB drive for the Install media. I got three upgrades done using a 32 GB USB drive where they failed with smaller versions. Possibly Microsoft has fixed this situation.
Can you tell us what problem originally caused you to roll back?

A Repair install using MCT will keep your Data and most all your software some setting will have to be reset up. However, you'll have a better chance of a successful install. You should have the latest Dell drivers handy as you'll need to reinstall them the Repair install will overwrite your dell drivers with windows, native drivers, most will work ok but some will need the dell drivers
You can try the MCT just upgrade my computer that will be pretty much the same as using windows update. If your worried about the leftovers from your last attempt to upgrade just use Disk Clean up and Clean up system folder that will clean out all the old update folder is there happens to be anything left after your rollback..
