Audio Crashes with Teams + DELL + USB Headset Poly

Hello Dell Community,

we're having issues with two new DELL laptops which we're testing.

Both devices have issues that after some time and often the audiodg.exe is crashing during a Teams call. the result is no audio anymore.

All solutions update driver, bios, disable enhancements, disable Intel sound devices had noch success. We had opened cases at Microsoft, Poly and Dell but all pointing with fingers to the other. As customer very frustrating but we cannot provide evidence which party cause it.
The headsets has worked in the past with older machines and my suspicion is that it is a driver issue.

  • Teams latest version (no Preview)
  • DELL Latitude 5590 und Dell Precision 7770
  • Plantronics Blackwire 5210 Series
  • Windows 11 (latest updates)

Anyone with same issue and may solutions?

The update to the latest driver fixed the issues.

    Fixes & Enhancements
    - Fixed the issue where there is an audio loss when using Microsoft Teams, WebEx, and Zoom applications. This issue occurs when you use a Jabra or Plantronics Mono headset.

Yes we are also having the same issue across a number of devices. But also some HP devices too.

It doesnt just involve headsets either (although we use Jabra), i have tried unplugging my headset and get a similar issue.

Microsoft Teams pops up and says there was a problem with the audio device and that I need to restart.

I find that if you quit Teams and restart the Windows Audio service, its allows you to use Teams again temporarily.

Weve done various things same as you - updates (Windows/Drivers/BIOS), somebody suggested reverting Intel Audio driver to the Windows one. But nothing has really made a difference.

Similar issue here with a Savi 8240 headset.  Open ticket with poly and they replied with the following.

For the Savi 8240 series, Microsoft Teams is compatible only up to a certain version. In this case, it is the version 1.2.00.8864 and below. Since the image says that the current version of Microsoft Teams is 1.6.00.1381, the headset would not be compatible. Hence, this particular issue is being faced with Teams only. Unfortunately, since it is a software issue, we would be unable to help here. The case number for your reference is ###. If you need any further assistance, please let us know.

Then they tried to close the ticket and I pushed back after which I received this.

Based on the information I have on my end, at the moment, we do not have any headset that is compatible with this particular version.  However, our engineers are working at the back end on this particular issue. Therefore, it is not like the headset is not going be compatible at all in the near future. But for the time being, you may continue facing this problem on Microsoft Teams particularly. The case number for your reference is ###. If you need any further assistance, please let us know.

I think Microsoft changed something and now everyone is trying to catch up.

Update: We have also tested other USB Headsets from Epos and also Zoom application. The problem does also occur with them. So from my point of view it looks like driver based issue on the new platforms.

    Update:

We have done some more test with the same hardware but Windows 10 as OS and there where no issues yet. From my point of view a windows 11 and driver issue.

Per dell tech support, this workaround does work.

The link below will allow you to install Dell Optimizer:
<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>

Once you've installed Dell Optimizer please go into the Audio section, and turn off the audio in this application, we've confirmed this is a workaround.

Very sad wanted to test it once, but even after reinstallation I can not start the optimizer under windows 11.

I have done this (Optimizer -> Audio -> turn off). It does not fix the problem. I still have AUDUIDG.EXE crashing, and then the conferencing application has no audio.

we have some promising results with installing latest audio drivers, bios and optimizer and turing off all audio improvments. But we need some more time to validate is this is a real solution/workaround.

I am very upset if improvment cause trouble! If yes the development has done bad job!
