Alienware shipping dates
Does anyone know why when you order a new Alienware from Dell, the delivery time is just under two months? Just ordered a 17 at the end of august, and its in the pre-production stage, with a shipping date on October 23! is that normal or is there a problem I should be concerned about?

It could very well ship within a week or two depending on the part and when they get their supply. They just like to give themselves some wiggle room (or a lot in this case). It could also be that there are a lot of people buying the same product as you are. Unless it is 'ready ship' or whatever they call it, Dell puts your product together as it comes in so they are not already made. I know how you all feel though.
My experience with Dell Alienware is that they, realizing how angry people get when they do not get their computer by the date promised, substantially pads the date when it should be delivered to you.
Be of good cheer, they do intend to get your computer as fast as they can.I also suggest that Alienware Technical Support, (for the US) while only a phone number, is excellent. So after you get computer, If you have a problem of any kind, I suggest you first try to call them, before asking on Forum. Although the Dell folks who post replies here have been usually accurate.
I purchased extra year of Alienware Technical Support. Of course, do what you think best for you situation.

A part or two is probably on back order. While a 2 month wait is not 'normal' it really depends on what part is on back order and how fast the manufacturer can get it to Dell.
