Area 51 ALX Upgrade..
Hi all,
I am thinking about upgrading my graphics cards from GTX 580s sli to GTX 590s sli which would make it quad with 2 cards and also i want to change my psu to a corsair ax 1200 which will fit easily or a 1500w psu... but there is one problem i need a wiring diagram for the 10 pin plug for the mio board so i can mod it to work, if anyone knows and could help me out it would be much appreciated.

There is only like one or two users here who have ever re-wired a standard PS to Area-51 MIO. They never posted the hack. Dell-AW never posted the PS wiring harness schematics (yes, I've asked many times) like they have for all the other Dell machines.

Thanks tesla, I think it's a bit wrong not to release schematics, the least they could do is make an adapter or something but I guess that would be a bit hard to do, but I just read in another forum that the psu is designed to power the mio board even when it's off.. It's a shame cause I was hoping to use this case for a long time...

Yes, especially since the service manuals for the normal Dell desktops include the pinout schematics for power supplies and other connectors/headers.
Yes, on my Aurora at least ... when the machine is shut-down off (but plugged in) in keeps power to the MIO-Board. This seems to keep the last cooling and lighting config running on the MIO-Board ... so it runs on BIOS boot and startup ... so it doesn't have to wait for Windows and Command Center to load before it can have a valid config to act on. I don't know about you, but I've never seen an aftermarket PS that keeps any plugs energized while the motherboard is turned off.
I could double-check it again (and even report if both +12 and +5 are both live) ... but I'm not sure how much help it would be because you have an Area-51 instead and the MIO-Board power plug is different. IIRC, it has something to do with them using the old harnesses from the XPS-730. There's an old thread about it.

Yeah I have tried looking up the wiring diagrams for the xps 730 cause apparently it is the same as the area 51 but I can't find it I might try and get it out of alienware/dell and if I have any luck I will post it on here I know a lot of people are frustrated at this aswell... The area 51 was advertised as the most 'upgradable' pc
