Control Panel Freezing

I have the Alienware M15x laptop. Bought it a little over 2 months ago. Here are my specifications in case this matters...

Operating System - MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1

CPU - Intel Core i7 740QM  @ 1.73GHz (Clarksfield 45nm Technology)

RAM - 6.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 660MHz (9-9-9-24)

Motherboard - Alienware (CPU 1)

Graphics - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M

Hard Drives - 313GB Western Digital WDC WD3200BEKT-75KA9T0 ATA Device (SATA) 51 °C

Optical Drive - PLDS DVD+-RW DC-8A2SH ATA Device

Audio - High Definition Audio Device

My problem is whenever i start up the control panel the windows "explorer.exe" process will freeze within 2-3 seconds and i will have to end the process and restart it. After the restart the control panel will work fine with no problems. It will happen only once. If i restart or shutdown my laptop and start it back up again the control panel will freeze once more upon first try then work like a charm from then on till my laptop shuts down again :(

I'm 100% sure i have no viruses/spyware/malware running or anything that may be tampering with me. I have already done a fully clean reinstall of windows 7 and this problem is still happening. I have had no luck with google or searching the internet.

    What did "sfc /scannow" report?

It's a very rare problem these days (on Win-7) so I don't think you will know what is actually causing it until you have fixed it. I doubt it's the OEM Windows install disc, but ya never know.

I think the AW laptops have some kind of AlienFX/MIO-Board hardware installed ... and something like the desktop's Command Center ... right?

Is Command Center installed and working ok?

Do you have a Service called "AlienFusionService" ?

I haven't seen that in a long time, but once it was due to a driver or program that wanted to display it's icon inside the Control Panel, but it was corrupt, didn't install properly, not compatible ... something like that. I think I ended up booting to Safe Mode and uninstalling the offending program.

    Also, try: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833

Sorry but that did not solve the problem :(

This has happened since the first day i opened the laptop out of the box and started it up? Could it be the resource cd/dvd that came with my laptop that has windows 7 installed on it. I reinstalled windows 7 with that dvd....but i do have a paid windows 7 dvd i can try to reinstall from that one instead.

     Good

Well, it's a long-shot, but it might have something to do with AlienFusionService.

See this thread (Page 8) and others. The work-around seems to be opposite for AW desktops and laptops.

    http://en.community.dell.com/owners-club/alienware/f/3746/t/19309885.aspx?PageIndex=8

So, either "Disabled" ... Not Running normally
or "Automatic (Delayed Start)" ... Always Running normally

Nope sorry doing both "Disabled" or "Automatic (Delayed Start)" did not solve the problem.

Im still wondering why it crashes the first time and not the second time? What changes after i have to restart the control panel?

Create the error, then look in Event Viewer for the error.

Does not show any errors or events :(

That doesn't sound right. Are you sure you are looking at the proper screen, on the proper date?
