Locking up

I have a aurora with I7 stock and x58 mobo with a 875 psu with 6 gb ram, computer would lock up and show (display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered), thought that maybe was a bad file so went to AW and installed the latest drivers for my gtx 460 and it kept doing that and sometimes would lock up so bad I had to hard reboot, so did a complete install of windows and still happens did a diag and did not have any errors or problems, any ideals?

Thx Paul

    * Power off
    * Open the cover
    * Check the power supply leads going to the video card. The 2x3 connector should be on P14. The other 2x3 or 2x4 should be on P15.

    The 2x3 is on p14, I have one gtx460 so the other plug is not plugged in p15, at least I do not see where it should go unless there was 2 cards, here is what has been

    going on, I play Wow and sometimes the screen would lockup and I would have to reboot system (twice), at first thought it was the game so i updated the drivers off of

    Alienware's web site which was last night, the wife went on the internet and the screen went black and there was alot of little flickers on it so I had to shut system down,

    I decided to reinstall windows thinking there was a bad file, I have three disks one is windows 7 pro 64 the second is resource dvd and the third is application, so I

    installed the windows disk then went to AW and put in my service tag and installed in order desk top system, chipset, video adapter, network, audio and input device

    drivers,(really thought that I could install from what I thought was recovery partion but cannot access it or at least do not know how I thought with these new

    computers that the second partion was the factory recover), anyways was trying to download WoW and every once in awhile it would flash display driver nvlddmkm

    would come up and sometimes the screen would go black and not respond then I would have to hard reboot do not like doing that, not sure what else to try, have been

    coming on here and seeing alot of help so I though I would give this a try.

    Yes, P14 is correct.

    You should probably go ahead and re-seat the video card (remove and re-install) ... to make sure it's making a good connection. Make sure the fan is turning.

    The Dell DataSafeLocal can be tricky to get working sometimes. But since you clean reinstalled from scratch, the Dell DSL functionality might be erased now (either app or hidden partition).

    So you have clean installed (I think it works better than DSL anyway) Windows-7 and installed all the updated drivers (sounds like in the correct order ... good job). Try the latest nVidia driver from support.dell.com. If the nVidia driver still crashes you have something seriously wrong. Probably the video card but it might be something else (you won't know until it's working).

    You didn't say how old it is or if you still have a warranty. If warranty, call Dell phone support and see what they say.

    System is about 4 months old, went ahead and reinstalled drivers for video, the system was flashing yellow then red but after reinstalling graphics driver so far has stayed green, not sure if that is good or not.

    Thx Paul

    I just looked up an EVGA GTX-460 (over at Newegg) and it uses TWO 2x3 power connections.

    Are you sure your card only has one power cable connection? Did you use a flash-light and look real close? Maybe when you pull it out to re-seat it you can double-check the whole card.

    Ok good, then you are still under warranty.

    What lights exactly are flashing and changing colors?

    If you mean the AlienFX light panels etc. on the outside of the machine ... no, those are just decorations and have nothing to do with the operation or health of the machine.
