4100 video upgrade

I have a Dimension 4100 with 256Mb of RAM and Windows 98SE.  I would like know if I can upgrade to a video card that has more than 64Mb of memory?
Thanks in advance!

You have to watch the power requirements of the newer video cards. Your powersupply may not provide enough power. The radeon 9600 pro is a good video card for gaming. Your processor and FSB are real bottlenecks for any of the highend cards.

Depending on price and what games u want to play  here are ur options

    NVidia geforce 5500, 5900, 6200, 6600, 6600gt.  ATI 9600 and 9800.  It has to be AGP card

Does it matter who makes the card or just that it has the NVidia Geforce chip and drivers for those model numbers?  Is one company better or more compatible than the others?

It differs.  Each company differs with what they give.  The ones I would recommend are BFG, XFX, Leadtek and MSI.  For ATI I don't know.  BFG will give u a vid card that is OC.  XFX usually ships the cards with a game bundle.  The rest I'm not sure.

On the nVidia end, the highest card I'd recommend would be a geForce4 Ti (not the slower MX). You could also get the FX equivilent of this as the 5700 (not the slower LE), but anything higher may be pushing it on power. Your CPU would even bottleneck these cards anyway. I don't know much of ATI's end, but the 9600 (non-pro version) is within the region of those two, but I think it's just a little bit better.

That's all I can say from what I've heard, but from experience, I have a GeForce4 Ti 4200 in my Dimension 4100. I have the 64MB model, but it's faster than the 128MB model from what I hear.
