I was looking at an audio clean up program that claims it cleans the audio when recording from tapes and lp's. does anyone know if these programs do a good job?
Some do a better job than others. Even the best ones sometimes cannot "clean up" everything. Also sometimes when you run a pop/click filter, for example it will also tend to remove some of the highs from the signal. You'll have to try them to see if it fits what you want to do. Recording studios that clean up old recordings have some high $$ software and equipment to do that.
One of the better, low cost programs that I've found is GoldWave, a shareware audio editor. I have a small home studio with a 16 track Fostex VF160 hard drive recorder. When I mixdown, I do it to the PC and then do any "clean up"/mastering with GoldWave. Last time I checked you can download a trial version. www.goldwave.com
