Audio Problem with Dell Dimension E310
Hey all,
I am trying to fix the audio on my Mom's computer. She said that one day it just stopped working. I have tried many different solutions to get the audio back with no luck.
The sound card she has is called "SigmaTel Audio High Definition". I tried uninstalling it in Add/Remove Programs and then reinstalling it when Add new Hardware starts up after reboot. When this happens, it won't install because it says that a device attached to the system is not working. I tried rolling back the driver, and that helped remove the resource conflict in Device Manager. However, the audio driver from Dell doesn't seem to do anything.
Any tips?
Thanks,
Christian

First, the SigmaTel audio is not a separate card, it is a chip on the motherboard.
Go to the Device Manager and display the status for the SigmaTel audio. If the SigmaTel is listed under Audio, note the error code if there is one. Right Click on the entry for the SigmaTel and then LEFT click "Uninstall". Restart the PC and when Windows starts it should detect and reinstall the SigmaTel audio. If not, try installing the Dell SigmaTel drivers.
