My system is brand new..and I can't even get it to De-Frag...
it's alittle weird....

Try booting up in safe mode and then running defrag

Download this program, install it and place it on your desktop.

You should unload all running programs before defragging. Many of these programs, if not closed, will continue to write to disk or swap file while attempting to defrag causing defrag to start over each time. The only programs that must run are Explorer (Windows) and systray.

Enditall will close everything else by leaving them "unprotected." Disable Norton AV "Auto Protect" through the Norton program.

Let defrag run once you start it. Even with everything shutdown it may restart a several times. The larger the hard drive or fragmentation of files, the longer defrag takes to "get rolling."

I also reboot when finished.

Defragging was/is a problem on ME systems that have old Network Associates products on their computer (McAfee Utilities, Guard Dog, First Alert, etc). The newer versions of these products are ok. Check out

I too was concerned about defragging hearing the horror stories. But the article above sets things straight and also gives a resolution should your ME system fail with the "Exception03h" problem. I never had ANY Network Associates products on my system and have never had any defrag problems with my Deimension 8100 ME system.
