Dead Computer

I have a computer that stopped working upon arrival at work this morning. Dimension 2400

It will not power up at all.

It is out of warranty.

Can anybody give me some ideas to start troubleshooting the problem.

Since it doesn't power up, is it likely to be a power supply problem? If not where should I start?

Thanks for any assistance.

I found these steps on an earlier post. I tried them and had no luck powering up the computer. I do get the green led light on the motherboard to light up. But nothing else. My next step is to swap out the power supply. Does anybody have any other suggestions.

If you're getting that power LED on the mobo, then the power switch is doing it's job making that turn on.  But either the motherboard isn't properly distributing the power, one of the devices connected is preventing it from doing so, or the power supply is bad.

    First, disconnect any external peripherals.
    Swap power cord with monitor.
Shut the pc off, unplug it, hold power for 10s.
Toggled the voltage selector switch on the back.
try and power it up, if no go continue
disco cables, hold power to release flea power (light on mobo)
disco all power and data cables from drives (cd,floppy, hard)
    remove memory
    remove expansion cards
reseat both 20 and 4 pin power cables to mobo
Power system up one more time and liste for some beep codes from the motherboard saying that it's getting no memory at least.
If not getting that, you can possibly look at reseating the heatsink/processor, but more likely replace power supply or mobo.
Power supply is the cheaper of the two options - replace it (swap with a known good if you have)
if that doesn't work, replace the motherboard.

Try testing the power supply by unplugging the 20 pin connector from the motherboard and jumping the Green wire to one of the Black wires, if power supply runs, then you know it's good.

As the D-2400 has an open back, if your system is not under warranty, you can use most generic ATX PSUs with or without the on/off power switch. Check out the Antec power supply line.
