Dell Dimension 3000 CPU
First, I won't buy a new computer so don't post saying "buy a new computer".

Anyways, I've had my DD3000 since it came out pretty much and I wanted to know if I could change the CPU in it? Only thing I've done to the computer was put 2GB RAM.
I currently have Intel Pentium 4 processor that runs at 2.8 GHz internally and 533 MHz externally.
I've updated to the latest BIOS so that's out of the way. It is possible for duel core? Or no? If not, Is it possible just to Ebay better single cores for the DD3000?

Even if you changed the mainboard, I doubt that would work. The Socket 775 mainboards still on the market support the Core2, Yorkfield, and Wolfdale series.

XSlashDashXThe Dimension 3000 does not support any dual core processors, you can install any [Desktop] socket 478 P-4 processor.Either the Socket 487, P-4 3.2GHz, or the P-4 3.4GHz will work fine.Prior to installing the processor, check that you have Version A03, when added support for newer processors was added.

Okay, thanks guys. Another question. When changing out processor, Do I need anything else? Also when I took out my old 2.8 processor, it had some gray stuff all over it. What is that?

how do u check to see what version u have-then where can u upgrade it at?

Thanks! One more question, lol. When I switch em out , my system is like loud. The Fan won't quit running and it never done this before unless I turn the computer on but then it would settle down. But now since I have the new processor in it, It's just loud 24/7. Is it because the system not use to it yet? Or is it because there is no Gray stuff on it? That Thermal stuff?

If you have not already done so, you need to clean the base of the heatsink and reapply the thermal compound, as per the instructions I've already posted.
Also, make certain the heatsink is firmly attached to the motherboard.
Do you have the latest BIOS version installed?

As you intend to reuse the heatsink, plan on cleaning it's base and reapplying thermal compound to the processor.
Directions for cleaning and applying thermal compound, are HERE.
Only need a small tube of thermal compound is needed, this can be purchased from any online, or local computer store.
