Dell OptiPlex 380

I have just tried to update my graphics card so I can stream to the TV.I bought a Radeon 5450 after setting up the graphics card I started the computer and all I got was beeps and a blank screen. This computer is seven years old so should be capable of running this card. When I removed the card the computer still bleeped and I got a blank screen again.Any help appreciated.

What color is power button and steady or blinking?

Count the beeps and look up error codes starting on page 12 in the manual. Beeps come in 3 groups separated by a short pause. For example:  one beep - pause - two beeps - pause -  one beep.

That may point you in the right direction.

And you may want to reinstall the new card and then remove the motherboard battery and press/hold power button for ~30 sec before reinstalling the battery. That should force BIOS to recognize the new card. See if it works now.

    Thank you for your reply.

I left the battery out over night put it back in this morning and still nothing. The fan spins then stops and I get three bleeps the light is green.

I then tried reinstalling the new card and took out the battery and followed your instructions still no joy.

    Green light three beeps.

You cant use onboard video when you have a card installed in the slot.

The 3 beeps means you are attached to the wrong connection.

You cannot use the Built onto the system VGA connector when there is a card in the X16 Video slot.
