also have a Dimension xps B800r, and left high and dry by dell on the xp bios upgrade issue.
lets unite, post on as many web sites as we can, and let people know with a 3 year warranty, DELL SAYS, BUY A NEW COMPUTER.... why, yes, yes we will, and it wont be a DELL. never and i mean never has a company left a "Valued" customer base with such an option!!!!
OK DELL, GIVE US 3/4 OFF ON A NEW DELL COMPUTER BECAUSE OF YOUR STANCE!! THAT OR A NEW WORKING BIOS WILL BE THE ONLY WAY TO MAKE YOU CUSTOMERS HAPPY.
I am sure, consumer groups will love to hear our story. pc mags, will love it also!!! our only option is to publicize our complaint!!!!!

Agree,
Many people have upgraded and they have not had a BIOS problem. The key is "Clean Install".

I guess now I'll go and stage a sitdown strike in front of Compaq, until they come up with drivers for my Contura 3/25 laptop. Hey, it has a 25mHz processor, 50MB HD, and 16MB of RAM in it - shouldn't be a problem with XP.

Being a firm believer in "Don't fix what ain't broke," I'm sticking with Win 98SE for the time being. This is an easier choice now that in the proposed Microsoft anti-trust suit settlement, I believe that MS has agreed not to end support for DOS based systems as the company had announced earlier this year.

Come to think of it, my brother-in-law should sue Packard Bell for not providing a way to upgrade his 486/50. And how about my old AST 486/33? Do you think I should have upgraded it instead of recycling it?

Then they should leave well enough alone and NOT upgrade their OS. No one is holding a gun to their head.
