Dial-up/Phone Line Connection ?
Hello! 
I have a phone line connection with my ISP service. When I am away from the computer for a while, say 45 minutes a window pops up and tell me that in so many seconds I will be disconnected if I don't click "Stay Connected". Then other times, my on-line contacts have me posted as "away". Does any of this have to do with being connected by a dial-up phone service? Would this happen if I was on "Fast Access" or Cable Modem? Thanks!

You can prevent disconnects by setting your e-mail software check for new mail every few minutes. This is possible with both Outlook Express and Netscape Mail. There are free-ware products that will keep the line active, too. I just don't remember any of them right now.
I have Netscape Mail set to check for new mail every five minutes. I never get disconnected in less than 12 hours. My ISP seems to disconnect at 12 hours no matter what I do. Big deal.
Of course, a broadband connection (DSL, cable) should be on all the time. And it would be much faster and more expensive.

The prompt is from your ISP after detecting a period of inactivity. No, this would not occur on a broadband connection.
