I have a friend's Dimension 8400 that I have been trying to restore. They were getting a blue screen upon booting up so I figured it was all messed up & was going to just do a total resinstall of XP with the supplied DELL disk. It has a SATA drive already installed and since they wanted to try and recover the data off of it, I figured I would install a spare IDE drive that I had and put XP on the IDE drive. I went into the BIOS and added the IDE drive as needed and attempted to do the install on the IDE drive.

Well, all was going well, but it always crashed during the installation process at 17% while copying files. So I figured maybe it had to install on the factory installed SATA drive. To first recover the data off of the SATA drive, I just wound up pulling it from the Dimension 8400 and hooking it up to my PC and got all the needed data off of it.

When I went to put the SATA drive back in the 8400 and turn it on, I now get a beeping sound and can't even get any kind of display on the monitor. No BIOS, no nothing. I double checked the connections and even tried reconnecting everything, but still no luck and am still getting a beeping sound when turing on the power. Does this mean there is some sort of other hardware failure going on here? Hence the reason for the blue screen in the first place?
