error at boot up

i have a dell 8250  2.8Ghz, Windows xp home

The other day i booted it up and wehn i got to the welcome screen just before it goes to the desktop a error dialog box came up

Windows -  Delayed Write failed

Windows was unable to save all the data for the file C:\System Volume Information\restore{ bunch of numbers}_driver cfg

the data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure in your computer hardware or network connection. Please try and save this file elsewhere

I then clicked on OK, and other similar Delayed write failed errors popped up with an audio beep when i clicked on OK.

What could have caused this?

Only thing i can think of is i lowered the disk space from 12% to 6% in system restore and scanned for hardware changes in device manager earlier in the day and preceding day.

I also tested the hard drive with a dell tech on the phone and it passed the test.

I had to reinstall fresh again, very depressing

Does anyone know what may have caused this to happen?

http://www.jsifaq.com/SUBM/tip6000/rh6046.htm  See if any of the information here is pertinent.

There are also reports that certain McAfee virus definition files caused this sort of error.  If you have McAfee AV installed, you may want to make sure you have the most recent engine installed, and that your definition files are up to date.
