Right now that card is an unknown in most Dell systems. It's been confirmed that it *dosen't* work in the XPS 600 (Dell may be working on a BIOS update), but it *does* work in an XPS Gen 3.

Since the Dimension 8400 uses basically the same motherboard and chipset as the XPS Gen 3, there's an excellent chance the 7950 will also work in the 8400.

If you decide to try it, post back with the results to let us know!

*The issue is that some chipsets and/or motherboards are set to only recognize a video card in the x16 PCIe slot. The 7950 appears to the board as a PCIe bridge chip rather than a video card (the bridge chip interfaces with the board, and then it's the chip that interfaces with the two GPUs). It's a valid PCIe configuration, but it's the first time it's been done, and it turns out many motherboards need an update.

I suspect the XPS Gen 3 was successful because it uses an Intel chipset, while the 600 dosen't (requiring an update from Dell, which may or may not come).

I got the card and it works great in the system, I did have to get a larger power supply since the card requires 400w and the orginal only has 350.

Some of the games before that I could not run maxed out, now handle it without any sweat rasied :)

Lobo, what are your system specs?  I'm thinking of putting a 7950 in my 8400 but thinking the P4 3.20ghz might be a major bottleneck.  What cpu do you have?
