Help with buying a new processor, mainly compatibility
Start off with a dxdiag...
Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_qfe.080814-1242)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: Dell Inc.
System Model: Dell DXP061
BIOS: Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 2.5.3
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6300 @ 1.86GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 2046MB RAM
Page File: 1519MB used, 2418MB available
Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
Hopefully this is enough, though let me know if you need more.
Basically, I'm looking to purchase a new processor for my Dell XPS 410. Specifically, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115017
As far as I can tell, this fits the socket of my motherboard, but I have read that other components are needed to be compatible. If it matters, I use this computer to primarily play games like World of Warcraft, Call of Duty 4, and Fallout 3. My current processor does the job just fine, but I would like something faster. I am willing to take suggestions on other processors/manufacturers, but please check to see if they are compatible first. Thanks.

Took me a while to find it,, but this is a list of all processors officially supported by the 410 with the latest BIOS (see Dell Chris-M's post) - the Q6600 should be fine:

Don't see a video card in your list, though - that might get you a better bang for your buck depending on what you already have.
