Jumping Icons

I have a Dimension L1000R with windows ME .
Recently my desktop icons will jump arond and switch places when I pass the mouse pointer over them.
Everything else works fine with the exception of system restore, which will not allow me to restore to a previous date.
I have contacted tech support, and was told I have a virus, but an anti virus scan showed no virus detected.
Any suggestions??

Sounds like you do have a virus. Call Norton and report it. You can restore your computer by pressing the F8 key during bootup. Be sure to press the F8 key and hold it for a few seconds as soon as the Dell screen shows and before the Windows screen comes on. Follow the screen instructions to do a restore. If you need help the Dell customer service folks can help you.

    This sounds like Magistr... http://www.sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.magistr.24876@mm.html
Try checking for some more symptoms.
Another thing...If you have none of the symptoms, this might work. Go to start, find, and type shelliconcache and delete that file. That stores the placement of the desktop icons. Windows will automatically restore the icons after reboot.
    Good Luck.
