Well first things first.  Do your homework.   The motherboard is an ATX board, however the first problem you'll run into is finding an I/O shield to match the boards ports.   Also,  if you're changing the power supply in this project to something much beefier than 250w,  make sure that it's designed to plug into a Dell mobo.  There are companies that make them and they're not too hard to find.   Good luck...

Dell MoBos have proprietary features , one of which is the proprietary ribbon cable connecting the board to the front panel power switch, LEDs and USB ports, whereas ATX cases use Molex style connectors.   You can use the "Advanced Forum Search" for more information about this subject.

Can't you just use the I/O shield from the 4600? Also, I thought that the 4600's didn't have that problem with the power connectors for the power supply. Also again, aren't molex connectors the type of connectors that run out of your hard drive and into your hard drive, optical drives, etc? I say this because when I look at other cases, I don't see these "molex" connectors, I just see something that looks similer to the setup I have on my 4600.

The board is micro-ATX in size;  the I/O panel may or may not fit another case.  The front panel connector is proprietary - you'll need to figure out which pin does what and fabricate connectors for the pins, which are in a single block on the Dell board but won't be on a standard case.

 

BTW, DevilsGT2 is correct about the MOLEX connectors.  Those are the power plugs that go into the P-ATA hard drives and CD drives.

Is the board that is found in a dell dimension 4600 a micro atx board?  Is that what you are saying?

This is exactly why I don't buy prebuilt systems anymore.  Like Dell, the prebuilt systems lock you in to one look and very little upgradability.
