msconfig-startup

I have a Umax scanner and at startup it loads VistaAccess. I have unchecked the boxes in msconfig-startup and everytime I restart the computer VistaAccess loads again and those same boxes in startup are checked. How do I get this to stop doing it.

I had this same problem a while ago. I finally called UMAX tech support. They had me first shut down VistaAccess manually, then go into msconfig/startup and uncheck all of the boxes for VistaAccess, then click on the "Apply" button, and then immediately reboot. The only thing different about this procedure that what I had already done, was the "Apply" button. It worked, but I don't know why. Try it, and let me know if it works for you.

What do mean manually shutting it down? I have been doing as you outlined and it doesn't solve the problem. Do you know what boxes are associated with VistaAccess besides the obvious.

By shutting it down manually what I mean is that I locate the icon for Vista Access in the System Tray and the Right click on it. A menu pops up and one of the options is "Exit" or "Quit" or something like that. I choose that and Vista Access is now not running on my computer (i.e. it is shut down). The only boxes I had to uncheck were the ones next to Vista Access. The only step that I did differently when I succeeding in disabling it from startup was to click "Apply" before I did the reboot.

I hope this clarifies the issue. Note that e-mail noticfication has not worked now for 3 weeks - this is since Dell introduced a new (and supposedly improved) version of the Dell Talk forum.
