I am printing from Micrografx Picture Publisher to an Epson 1270 Photo Printer on USB.

Man you got me. I went to Micrografx site and found nothing. The only thing I can think of is maybe the product is trying to register itself. Look around in the Picture Publisher application and see if you can find any 'option' turned on that would tell the thing to call home. I agree with the tech support guys, it's probably not a virus if you're only seeing this dialup and send occuring with this product and nothing else. Beyond that you stumped me... Sorry.

Does the dail-up send recive last more then 20 seconds.. If not you probably don't have anything since when dail-up first connects with the server it needs to authenticate with the server so you will get send recive.

Also you can try clicking cancel when prompted to dail-up.

Last if you run a program that requires the internet any program it, will bring up the dail-up networking thing. (I found that out when I told norton system doctor to monitor my internet speed)

The program I am using does not access the internet. The bytes sent and received show 20000 to 30000 and last for several minutes unless I catch it and cancel.

It always happens when I click the printer to print a photo I have scanned or opened from the hard drive.

It also happens when I click the printer settings in control panel or try to print from any other program as well.

I am worried about a virus because I had already thought that might be the problem with the 4100 that have caused so much trouble.

I just reformatted and reinstalled everything including Norton AV and also updated the virus definitions. Norton scan showed nothing.

this is something. have you directed printing to your default printer? and does the photo or scanned image gets printed at all? i once encountered a similar problem. whenever i print, the output wen to the fax software and try to send it. so i went to page set up and find the printer tab. micrografx i think has a default to upload the print somewhere... check the settings of the software specially printer settings.. and also the calendar of the software.. good luck

Thanks to all who tried to help. After much research I finally nailed it down to Lanbridge (software to connect more than 1 computer to 1 ISP connection). Why a printer is able to dial out on that I don't understand but it is fixed now. While researching I ran across some information on Intel about the Memory Translator Hub causing a lot of strange things like the computer will reboot because of too much noise????? Like the 4100 fans maybe????
