Order processing glitch

I just ordered an XPS 710 the other night.  Spent an hour on the phone and wound up with a good deal.  What surprised me, tho, was that the order processor couldn't decently access what was in my cart.  She had several versions showing, including my wish list.  I only could access one version at a time - the current one.  We went thru the details B4 I placed the order, but I had to correct a couple of things in the process.  I didn't catch a couple of minor things and wound up with a slightly different configuration than I had planned on - no big deal - but I did lose out on free recycling which was in the cart and all the wish lists.  When I discovered this and we spoke later, the lady said she'd have to cancel the whole order and start over to make the change, and that would screw up the discounts.  Also, I was thinking of getting QuickBooks Pro - $149 on the on line order form, marked down from $169 - but she couldn't find that price and said it's $189.  I told her it's right on your website, but she couldn't access it.

Bottom line:  I'm happy with what I'm getting - just surprised at the inefficiency.

Instead of using the recycle method look for a local thrift store (or something similar) and give them your old comp.  My local store puts together workable computers from old parts and gives them to those who are less fortunate.   Good luck with your new machine.

We have the same thing here.  Just less hassle if you ship to back to Dell.

Yes, but then nobody benefits from your old box.

Double check with local shops or charities before assuming they can take an old computer.

Many won't even take them at all.

That's what I mean about the hassle factor.  There are some schools that have periodic computer recycling collections as a fund raiser, so I'll just watch for one of those.  Still does some good.

This is just a side issue - an example of how the order processing didn't go smoothly.  The order taker apparently didn't know how to access Dell's own website or how an order is configured on same.
