Power Switch Compatibility
Hello,
Just to know if the power connector 24pins is compatible with the standard ATX from everywhere.
I bought an additionnal Power supply from Thermaltake (Power Express) 450W and wires seams to be not the same.
On thermaltake, there is a wire not connected (N° 20) and on Dell it is the N°13.
I have an error return from the computer (LEd C fix orange) - > Power supply error (Normal.... !!)
Is there a possibility to have a picture or a drawing of the DELL connection ?
My Mothercard is 0T0820 and I would like to install a graphic card ASUS EAH3870X2 Series 1Gb.
Thank you by advance.
Laurent

Hello,
You are right, it is a Precision 470.
The new power supply I have installed is here. Problem is that the compatibility between the DELL ATX Power connector and Standard ATX connector is not existing and on the Thermaltake adaptor there is a 2-pin connector to connect. This 2-pin connector starts the Power Express in the same time that the main Power. It needs to be connected on a COM and a PSON wires. but due to the difference between both "standard" these 2 wires are not on the good place on DELL.
So I found a solution. I will cut the 2-pin connector and reinstall it on the existing connector with a fast connector and normally it will be good. The problem now is to find the color of these 2 wires. On standard ATX it is black (COM) and green (PSON). But on DELL standard, the PSON wire seems to be different. Sometime it is green, sometime it is brown :

So, now I need help to choise the color (brown or green) because I have both on my connector !! - or grey also because I have it too.....
Hope that my text is clear.... Thank you by advance.

Sorry, but your text is not clear
You cannot use a L Series power supply as a guide, it is not a standard ATX unit, it is a Dell proprietary power supply, the wiring and connectors are different.
Bev.
Don't be sorry Bev ;-) - My english is not perfect and I have too many ideas in my head to explain them clairly.....
In fact, I just want to know where is the PSon wire on the DELL 24-pin connector (I know only that is the brown or grey or green).
With this information, I will connect my own wire on it to give an information to my own power supply. That's all.
I called DELL yesterday but they are not able to give me this information.
Thanks
Laurent

Can you post the computer model and a link to the power supply.
The 0T0820 motherboard seems to be from a Dell Precision 470/670 Workstation Computer.
Bev.
