Printer Communication Error
I have a Dell Dimension 4700 running Win XP SP2 and have installed my Epson Stylus Photo 890 and my Mustek scanner. I have connected these to to computer via the LPT port (printer connected to the scanner, scanner conncted to the LPT port on the back of the PC). I never had any problems with this connection on my previous PC but ever since i have had my Dell PC i have not been able to print or scan. I always get a communication error come up. Is there a setting i need to change in the BIOS or is there anything else anyone can think of that will help me rectify this problem.

That is the least desireable way to connect peripherals (daisy chained). All of my customers that had separate scanners and printers that were Printer port (parallel port) connected never worked correctly until I installed a 2nd Printer port card, so each device was on a separate printer port.
With older hardware on new Windows XP computers, the new PC's default Printer port mode is "ECP". Many older devices will not work with the ECP mode and you have to go into the BIOS and change it to either EPP or even BI-Directional.
If either (or both) of those devices will work on USB, switch over to USB and your problems will be gone.
