problem booting from cd/dvd optiplex 740
when it shows bood from cd: few seconds later it says
NO BOOT DEVICE DETECTED, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS F1 TO CONTINUE OR PRESS F2 TO SETUP MENU.
now i go not system disk for dell only a windows 7, windows xp and vista. i made the cd/dvd drive only boot first and disabled rest. dont know what to do. thanks if any1 can figure out whats wrong.

Why are you trying to boot from the CD/DVD drive?
Are you putting a bootable CD or DVD in the drive before attempting to boot from the optical drive?
If you have more than one optical drive, try putting a bootable CD/DVD in the other drive.

BTW: Reboot and press F2 before Windows starts to load to open BIOS setup. Look in BIOS to see if the optical drive is being recognized.

now when u go to bios u go to drives right to check if it reads the optical?

its a dvd windows is on and it works fine on the other computers. and i dont got a dell resource or utility cd idk where to get. and i got the boot seq for optical to 1 and hdd 2nd.

Is it a bootable CD/DVD in the optical drive? Will that CD/DVD boot some other PC?
You didn't say why you're booting from the optical drive.
Did you check BIOS Setup to see if the optical drive is recognized, and the port where it's connected is Enabled?
If you boot from the hard drive and try to read a CD or DVD in the optical drive, does that work?
What version of Windows is on the hard drive?
Look in Device Manager to see if the optical drive is recognized, enabled, and not marked with a yellow ! or red X which would indicate a problem with the drive.

booting the windows 7 cd i burned because the computer keeps rebooting/ restarting everytime when it says load windows 7 and shows the logo thing w/e its called. it should be windows 7 on the hard drive.

Can you try booting with your Win 7 CD on some other PC? It could just have been a bad burn so the disk isn't bootable. (Can Win 7 actually fit on a CD? DIdn't you need a DVD to hold it?)
Do you have any other CD that's bootable to test on this system? If you have a Dell Resources or Dell Utility CD, they should be bootable. Doesn't have to be a Win 7 CD, you just want to know if the PC will boot from any optical disk so we can rule out a failed optical drive.
If your Win 7 disk boots another PC, reboot the Optiplex and press F2 to open BIOS setup. Make sure the SATA port where the optical drive is connected is Enabled in BIOS and BIOS identifies the drive correctly.
Then check the Boot Sequence in BIOS. Move the optical drive to the top of the sequence to get it to boot from the CD. Use the left- and right-arrow keys to highlight the Boot menu. Press the up- and down-arrow keys to highlight the appropriate Boot Device option (1st - 4th Boot Device are available options). Press the up- and down-arrow keys to move through the list of devices. Press to select a device to be the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Boot Device, (as applicable). When you've made the changes, put the bootable CD/DVD in the optical drive, then be sure to save the change(s) and exit BIOS Setup. It should boot from the CD/DVD....
