Problems starting up
I have a Dimension 4600 desk top. Recently I have encountered the following problem. I turn the power on at the wall plug and find I have to press the power up button on the front of the computer up to eight times before it will start. Often it will partially start after try #6. However, if I leave the wall plug switched on all the time, the power up button will go first time. I am reluctant to leave the power on all the time as it wastes power, and I certainly do not like leaving the system plugged in during thunderstorms. Does anyone have any ideas why the computer will not start!! Thanks, kapiti.

- Try turning the wall switch on, waiting a minute, and then pushing the power button. As the above member pointed out however, it's really not smart to unplug your CPU evertime you shut down. A powered down (but connected) CPU only draws about one watt. As such, your unlikely to save even a dollar on your electric bill by turning off the outlet, especially when you factor in the toll constant "unplugging" and "replugging" will take on your system in the long run. Definitely get a decent power strip to protect against surges (it's worth spending a bit more on one of these for the added security).
