I need to replace the motherboard of a Dell Dimension 4550. I tried to fit new memory, but despite all efforts, it just beeps at me when I try to power up. I suspect that the motherboard developed a stress fault due to clumsy me, and just want to know how to order, part number, etc, a new motherboard. The site is not helpfull in this respect. I cannot find a part no., nor any way to order the motherboard! Anyone. Plz help. The 'Power-on' beep is usually a Death Nell for something hardware... Just tell me how to/what to order. (Money, don't talk to me about money!) Dell Dimension Motherboard. 4550.

Many of you replied to this before TOS24 swooped on it , and were most helpful.

Sigh. The fun I could have had with asterisks on TOS24. Oh well (Better not!).

To find the Dell partnumber, look for the Dell serial number (usually abbreviated to DS/N). It should start with 2 letter, then a 0 (zero), and the next 5 characters are the partnumber.

 But a search with Google got me to this link for a source for a 4550 motherboard (533MHz FSB, which is compatible with the older 400's and the newer 533's).

First, please edit your post and remove the 'word substition', otherwise the post will be deleted.

For a system as old as the Dimension 4550, I doubt you will find a new motherboard, a 'Refurbished Dell OEM Dimension 4550 motherboard, can be purchased from HERE
