replacing intergrated sound card
I've discovered through reading the posts that it is possible to use a differant sound card then the sound max intergrated card. Would some please take me step by step through the procedure. I understand that the sound max must be disabled in the Bios. How is this done? Thanks Rimmy

Sorry about the lack of info in my post. I using a dimension 2400 and OS is xp pro. I have 1,024 ram and a 2.8 cpu. Hopefully this will help you help me. Thanks for you reply. Rimmy.265

What model PC? What Operating System? That needs to be on any initial problem post for us to give you specific assistance.
But in general there is an option in many Dell's, in the BIOS (setup) to disable the on-board (sometimes labeled legacy) audio.
Other than that you install the PCI sound card (obviously with the power off) boot up the PC and do not let Windows search or install any drivers. When Windows fully starts you insert the install CD that comes with the sound card and it will install the drivers and any additional programs.
If you have a "compact" system such as an Inspiron 530S you can only use "low profile" cards.
