Setting the default sound device
I have installed a driver for an external audio device that i want all of my audio devices to run through. The external device is Digidesign Digi002 Rack that runs on ProTools LE Software. The driver that I'm using is the Soundwaves 6.1 that comes with the ProTools software. When I install it it shows it in the sounds and devices and I have the option to set it as the default driver. When I set it as the default is says that there is "no audio device" on the sound tab. The factory default was the SoundMax device. How do I go about changing this?

yes. i disabled it in BIOS and the driver that I wanted to use still wouldn't assign to the playback device even though it said it was there. perhaps it is a plug and play device driver. how do i check to make sure that the plug and play is enabled?
Also,
Over the weekend I had to reinstall XP and now the Soundmax device isn't even showing up. That is the factory installed sound card. I checked in the BIOS and the sound is on but it's apparently not reading that device. I tried to install the driver for the multimedia audio controller but i couldn't find it. does anybody know which disc that is on? even though this isn't the sound device that i want to use i would still like to have installed so that i have the option.

- Once Windows XP has been reinstalled, you must first install the Intel Chipset drivers. Both the Intel driver package and the drivers for the remaining components within your system (such as integrated audio) can be found on the Dell Drivers and Utilities disc (also called the Dell ResourceCD).
