Spy hardware
I have a Dimension 2400 PC. I wrote a long time ago to this forum and got a lot of valuable information, including a link to a shop manual for my computer.
The first time I was on this forum was also the last. It subsequently wouldn't accept my password, wouldn't give me a new password, and generated bizarre messages. For instance, it would tell me the password must have only alphanumeric characters when I was using just that. Also, I've never been able to get on any other forum. I'm sending this from a Kinko's.
I now know what this hacker is doing. When I turn my computer on, I'm instantly connected to him through this wireless spy hardware, even though I don't go online. Every screen I see on my monitor is forged, even my desktop. When I go on the Internet, every page is filtered through his machine. Rarely it's the actual website. Usually it's a forgery of the website, which I can't navigate.
With the shop manual, I was able to take my computer apart. The CD has a screw that's almost impossible to reach. It was turned down only part of the way. Does anyone know if it's possible to attach a wireless component to the CD drive or to swap the original CD drive with one that is pre-wired to be a wireless transceiver?
I've also read about wireless modems. Maybe he switched my modem for one. Or maybe he switched the Ethernet card. Is there something I should look for on these cards?
In Device Manager I found the following under network adapters:
Direct Parallel
WAN Miniport (IP)
WAN Miniport (IP) Packet Scheduler Miniport
WAN Miniport (L2TP)
WAN Miniport (PPPOE)
WAN Miniport (PPTP)
Also, one of the USB ports is called an Enhanced Host Controller.
Does anyone know which of these he could be using and how to find their physical location?

Is this a joke? How do you know there is "hacker" connected to your machine? Do you have some evidence?
I wouldn't expect them to attach any wireless connections to the CD drive. That wouldn't make sense.
Enhanced Host Controller indicates that you have USB 2.0 ports. It has nothing to do with wireless.

Wan miniport... It's software so you can't see it.
Do you have a router and broadband internet connection?

I hope you two are putting me on. I can't believe that people who have probably had some schooling in computers could be so ignorant.
Do you believe in miniaturization and nanotechnology, or do you think they're myths or delusions?
Did you know that some sneaky people actually rewire ordinary components to do unexpected things? And they look just like the same old original components. Gosh!
You folks are not prepared for the world we live in.

I have neither a router nor a broadband connection. In fact, I don't have a wireless card. This person got physical access to my computer. I don't know where he installed the wireless transceiver, but it's there. When I turn my computer on, I'm connected to his network. Since the modem isn't even plugged in and I have no wireless card or DSL connection, I don't know how else he could get in without having set up wireless access.
Is there someplace that would interfere too much with its operation, like putting it by the fan or the power source?
I can't even address the software issues until I find and remove what he's using to get in.

Seems like Lillian went from "my PC isn't working right" straight to "a hacker did it". Nothing anybody here can do to convince someone like that of the possibility the PC might just need a repair for a plain old malfunction.

This an ex-husband/boyfriend kind of thing? I'd be more concerned about the old camera-in-the-cologne-bottle trick. You have no network, no broadband, no modem, and you still get what looks like the internet but isn't?
Have this examined by a professional. Nobody here is going to be able to lead you to a wireless spy device, without even being able to see the system.

What makes you think it connects to his network? Tell us what the screen says. Please be specific.
And if your modem isn't plugged in, it's no wonder you can't log into any websites from home.

lillian - i seriously doubt someone has hacked your system and altered your hardware. i believe you may be misinterpreting some symptoms.

By the way, I understand there are such things as nanotechnology, but I would hazard a guess that your rudimentary understanding of such technology has led to irrational paranoia.
