Windows Protection Error
I have a problem when booting up. The computer goes through its checks and then a one line phrase 'Windows protection error. Restart your computer' pops up. After hitting Cont-Alt-Del, the same thing happens.
I think I have to reinstall Windows 98, but how do I do that? I have the Windows 98 CD, but no start up disk (nothing told me to make one when I first started my computer).
If I don't have to reinstall Windows 98, then what do I need to do? If you're interested in knowing how I got this problem, continue reading.
I tried to resolve a sharing problem between and IDE controller (installed by Dell) and a SCSI card (I installed). I swapped the cards around to see if that would fix the problem. Then I went to reset the configuration (based on what a previous Dell tech told me to do on another sharing problem) by pressing Del during the start up procedure. It took me to a screen that had heading on the top. I went to Advanced, and chose 'Reset Configuration', pressed 'Yes', then f10 (Save and Exit).
When I booted from there, it gave me the error message stated above.
Can you offer any suggestions?
