Hi Henry,

I use the free version of ZA, and keep both settings at High, and keep the entire column under Allow Server (in the Programs screen) exed out. I haven't had any problems.

Edit: I couldn't bring up the pcflank website. Have you tried using this test? I come up aces on this site.

I will recommend one thing to you. I would get Internet Explorer 6.0. I have seen faster surfing with Internet Explorer 6.0.

Have you checked Windows Updates lately? There was a critical update not to long ago.

This update may eliminate the security breach.

Hi again,

The easiest way for me to explain how I've got my ZA set up is to go tab by tab, I think, though I can't offer you any technical rationales for my settings. All I know is it works for me. (Most of these settings are from recommendations others have posted here):

Alerts - Both boxes left unchecked.

Lock - Three circles checked: Enable, Engage Internet lock (30 minutes), Pass Lock programs may...

Security - Advanced: Nothing checked, both sliders set to High, all three boxes checked.

Programs - Allow Connect: the obvious necessities (e.g. ZA, IE, AV, etc.) checked; annoyances (e.g. auto updates) exed out; everything else gets a question mark. (I don't distinguish between Local and Internet since I'm on a stand-alone home PC). Pass Lock: I put check marks, again, next to the necessities.

Configure - Load Zone Alarm at start-up is the only box checked.

Others may suggest different settings which may be just as good, or better. All I can say is that using these settings I get as high a score as possible on the security test sites, and have not had any problems accessing any sites.

Take a look at the tutorial which explains this better, also if you still have ports open or visible with zone alarm on, you may have other problems or your settings are not right. Again the tutorial and FAQ's or other excellent help sources can help you.
